BIBENS LUDEM

DESCRIPTION

Bibens Ludem is a board game that was made for one of my game design coures where we were tasked with making a board game based of a fable, taking the elements of the story and characters to make a game out of it. Bibens Ludem is a social deduction drinking game which can be played with either 4 or 5 players. Players at the start of the game are each assigned a color and grab a card which tells them which character they are playing as and roll 4 or 5 dice (depending on number of players). Each character has a unique win condition that intertwines with other characters. The players use the dice to bid on drinks throughout the game which are given to whichever player has the highest number in that collum.

What I learned:
Making this game helped me really understand how making small design changes has cascading effects on the rest of the play experience. When making this game we came up with the foundation pretty quickly with most of our changes and improvements being small changes to the rules and character cards' win conditions. Making this game helped me learn how to better analyze games and practice addressing design problems. A major challenge in the game was designing it so that it would be fun with or without alcohol balancing the aspects of making the game have a strategy and levels too it while not making it complex that it is too hard to learn for it to be an effective social party/ drinking game.  Also, figuring out how to make a social deduction game that encouraged talking. In early playtests often players would stay silent not communicating with eachother displaying a key issue in our character roles. To fix this we made it so that two of the roles work together (Fox and Horse) among other varios changes.
